Admissions

To apply for a Reception Place:

If your child was born between 01/09/07 and 31/08/08 you must apply for a reception place before the 15th of January 2012. You can do this online at www.leeds.gov.uk or on paper which you can get from Woodlands.

You will hear where your child has been given a place on the 20th of April by email if you applied on line and a few days later by letter if you applied on paper.

To apply for a Nursery Place:

Children can start Woodlands nursery the term after their third birthday.

Before this time you can fill in a form to go on a waiting list to start nursery. To go on the waiting list you need to come into school to fill out a form and bring your child’s Birth Certificate or Passport.

You will be contacted by letter when a place becomes available for your child to start.

Children must be toilet trained in order for them to come to nursery.

School Uniform

pic of uniform

We are very keen for all our children to wear the agreed school uniform, it helps to maintain a positive sense of community and a learning environment that is not distracted by fashions and inappropriate or dangerous clothing and footwear.

School uniform order forms are available from the school office, these are from Eldon Schoolwear and take up to two weeks for delivery. The uniform can also be purchased directly from Jo Brand on Harehills Lane. Ties can be purchased directly from the school office.

Nursery do not have a uniform, but from Reception to Year 6 uniform is compulsory.

School uniform consists of the following:

  • A ‘V’ Neck Royal Blue Sweatshirt or a Royal Blue Cardigan preferably with the school logo.

  • A Tie – navy and green, clip on or Velcro. (Highly recommended)

  • White Shirt (preferred) or a white polo shirt.

  • Black or Dark Grey Trousers / Skirts.

  • A pair of sensible shoes are needed for school. A coat or jacket is required for lunch and break times.

    Jeans are not acceptable.

It is our firm belief that uniform is a positive feature of our school and is ultimately a cost effective and straightforward system for parents. We appreciate your support.

    P.E.

On P.E. days children should come to school dressed in their P.E. Kit. Preferably the P.E. kit should match the school colours. Acceptable P.E. kit should be tracksuit bottoms with a white top or white top with shorts, sensible suitable footwear should also be provided.

    Jewellery

Most jewellery is not allowed at school, small studs are acceptable but due to safety reasons earrings are not allowed.

    Attendance and Absence

To report your child as absent please use the telephone numbers found on the contact page to inform us, click here to go to the contact information page.

    Holidays

Parents wishing to take their children on holiday in term time must come into school and fill out an application for absence for holidays in term time.

It is not an automatic right to take children on holiday in term time, time in school is extremely important.

The head teacher will consider the application and take into account attendance and the child’s progress.

    Lunches

Woodlands Primary School is a healthy school, as such unhealthy snacks and lunches are discouraged. Snacks for break time must be healthy, usually fruit.

    Children at Woodlands can:

  • Have a school lunch

  • Bring a packed lunch

  • Under arrangement can go home for lunch

  • Rewards

Here at Woodlands our children are praised for their appropriate behaviour and good work. Children are rewarded with Team Points, Gold Book certificates or Golden Time!

Children’s Team Points accumulate to form whole school team totals, these are Badgers, Foxes, Birds and Squirrels.

Children who have in the week surpassed expectations either with behaviour or work can be nominated for a Gold Book award. The Gold Book assembly takes place on Friday afternoon in which all nominated pupils receive a certificate in front of the whole school from the Head Teacher to celebrate their achievement. Parents or Carers of the Gold Book children are invited to the Gold Book assembly.

You can see the latest Gold Book winners by clicking here!

Golden Time is on alternate Fridays in place of the Gold Book assembly. In this time children take part in activities that are fun and a reward for their great behaviour and hard work!
